Sinclair Knits is a lunchtime knitting club for Junior students at R.G. Sinclair Public School. By knitting students develop their fine motor skills, numeracy skills, critical thinking and creativity. All of the pieces that the students knit are donated to local organizations. Hats were made and given to the Kingston Youth Shelter and Martha’s Table, blankets were given to the Kingston Humane Society, among other groups.
Kids have to use math to count out what they are doing, as well as measuring. They have to think critically and get to be creative as they pick the yarn they want to use. Some are also turning into leaders. They are also learning patience and persistence.
Sinclair knits allows students to develope a positive growth mindset and willingness to try their best.
