Engaging and Informative Author Visit

Zetta Elliott's Virtual Visit with Students Deemed 'Amazing'
Posted on 03/03/2022
Author Zetta Elliott met virtually with more than 40 elementary classes to share her love of reading and writing. Her book, Dragons in the Bag, is one of the 25 titles from the Books Are Back initiative that has been gifted to every grade 4 - 6 classroom in the Limestone District School Board.

Students had lots to say when asked what they thought about Zetta's message.  Many shared that they liked when Zetta spoke about her own experiences and her creative process when writing. It was evident that Zetta brought an excitement to the idea of reading books and ensuring that as readers we question the voices we hear in books and those voices that are left out.  One student offered that they liked "how the author never gave up on her dreams and stayed true to her ideas and did not settle even when people wanted to change her ideas."
Zetta described the differences between "window books, mirror books and sliding glass door books" and emphasized the importance of easy access to books for all in which the reader can see themselves reflected.

A teacher noted that students left with the message of hope about their own writing and that they could all turn their ideas into something great.

The Limestone Learning Foundation is pleased to support such a rewarding opportunity for the students in the LDSB, extending the Books are Back initiative to include virtual author visits.

David A. Robertson, author of The Barren Grounds, will host a virtual visit for LDSB elementary classes on April 28, 2022.
