Family Math Night at Cataraqui Woods E.S.
Posted on 11/21/2019
Cataraqui Woods Elementary School hosted Math Through Play on November 29, 2019. Families were invited to attend and were introduced to math games that supported numeracy skill building. A variety of games involving everyday manipulatives such as dice and decks of cards were designed for Primary and Junior aged children. Families were free to visit all games that were age appropriate to the children in their family. There were Grade 7 and 8 students taking on leadership roles at each game station by explaining the rules and assisting in the playing of each game. At the end of the evening, families received a take away gift bag that included math manipulative materials (dice, deck of cards, etc.), laminated game boards, game instructions to use at home.

The school will continue to offer family math events. The familiarity of these math games and experiences will provide possible opportunities for older students to assist in learning Primary-based math clubs.
