Business Leadership for the 21st Century

Collaboration, the importance of teamwork, and group dynamics. Business students at Frontenac Secondary School are turning their learning into leading with a little support from the Limestone Learning Foundation.Image of students working around a circular table.

Students were so inspired by business leaders who spoke to students about the importance of teamwork and group dynamics that students redesigned their classroom into a work space that you might see at Google or Shopify.

Breaking down physical barriers has changed the way students see themselves and their learning. Students now feel empowered in the space and comfortable working as a team, developing skills in problem-solving, conflict resolution and collaboration.

Through video conferencing and other technological supports, students are connecting to national and international business leaders, expanding their learning opportunities.

One such opportunity is with St. Lawrence College and the Shopify Badge Program. Frontenac secondary students are becoming experts in e-commerce, developing Shopify sites, and meeting strict criteria to earn a badge. It has been so successful that two students have taken their stores live, and are receiving income from their stores. Frontenac is the first high school in the world to receive this designation. Shopify is expanding this program to other schools using the SLC/FSS experience as the criteria to teach the Shopify Badge Program.

A Limestone Learning Foundation grant has now made it possible for the class to purchase their own video conferencing system so they can continue to develop business relationships, e-commerce projects and now mentor other students across the Limestone District School Board.
