Start Up @ Sydenham

Startup @ Sydenham isClick here to watch video at Start Up @ Sydenham a new learning opportunity for Grades 5-8 designed to teach an entrepreneurial mindset and nurture students’ creative problem solving skills.

Over the course of the year, students at Sydenham Public School worked alongside successful entrepreneurs, as well as faculty and students from Queen’s Engineering and Applied Science, and St. Lawrence College to solve a problem. They learned how to research an idea, overcome challenges, create a business plan and present a marketing campaign. Students worked together to design, create and test a working prototype of an outdoor USB charging table and pitched it to investors.

The charging table will combine solar cell technology with “pedal power” technology that will keep kids active and allow them to socialize while charging their electronic devices at the same time. Through Startup @ Sydenham students will learn how to turn a small idea into a big reality – just like a real entrepreneur.
